The newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Nadowli-Kaleo, Joseph Daala Kontomah, has expressed strong confidence that the party can win the parliamentary seat in the 2028 general elections.
According to him, victory in 2028 is achievable if the party remains united, strengthens coordination among its members, and adopts strategic measures to rebuild its grassroots support.
He refuted claims that the strong showing of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party in the constituency since 1992 is an impediment to a victory for the NPP in 2028. Winning the Nadowli-Kaleo seat is a very high possibility for the NPP in 2028 especially with the rather unsatisfactory performance of the current MP and the NDC government, he said.
Mr. Kontomah described his new role as a “humble responsibility” entrusted to him by party delegates. He pledged to provide energetic and focused leadership aimed at repositioning the NPP for electoral success in the constituency.
“The delegates have not just elected me; they have endorsed my vision and confidence in my ability to lead the party to victory,” he said.
He stressed that unity would be the cornerstone of his administration, noting that he intends to bring together former party executives, the youth, polling station executives, and the broader grassroots membership to work towards a common goal.
Mr. Kontomah said divisions within the party had cost the NPP opportunities to win the Nadowli-Kaleo seat in previous elections, despite significant electoral gains over the years.
Reflecting on the party’s electoral performance, he noted that the NPP recorded steady improvements in parliamentary elections between 2000 and 2008, with its vote tally increasing from about 9,000 to over 12,000. He added that the party also had another realistic opportunity to capture the seat in 2016, but internal disunity undermined its chances.
He maintained that his deep understanding of the constituency’s political history and the factors that have influenced the party’s performance since 1992 places him in a strong position to lead efforts to flip the seat.
Mr. Kontomah called on all members of the NPP in the constituency to put aside their differences and unite behind a shared vision of returning the party to power in Nadowli-Kaleo in the 2028 general elections.
