The Dagaaba Youth Association (DAYA) in the Savannah Region is calling on government and humanitarian organisations to come to the aid of internally displaced residents of Gindabour, a community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba (STK) District.
The call comes following a tragic incident in the community on September 16, 2026, which reportedly resulted in the demise of Abu Seidu, a teacher, and General Constable Redeemer Owusu, a police officer.
The group, in a formal statement issued September 20, 2026, expressed deep sorrow over the events, joining many well-meaning citizens to mourn the tragic loss of the two individuals.
While extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, their employers, and the entire Gindabour community, DAYA expressed grave concern over happenings in the aftermath of the devastating deaths.
The youth highlighted a growing humanitarian crisis in the area as many people are reportedly displaced by the situation.
They said fear and uncertainty have gripped the community, forcing a number of residents to flee their homes with no clear timeline on when it will be safe to return.
DAYA stressed that urgent attention must be paid to the safety, welfare, and relief of the displaced, particularly children, women, the aged, and other vulnerable groups.
The youth body appealed to relevant government authorities and humanitarian organizations to step in urgently with shelter, food, security, and essential supplies, while working to establish conditions that will allow residents to return home safely.
Reflecting on past conflicts in the broader STK district that severely damaged local livelihoods and trust, DAYA warned against allowing the current situation to trigger another cycle of instability and fear.
To address the situation, the association respectfully appealed to the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, to ensure coordinated national support and reinforce ongoing security operations and investigative efforts.
DAYA also urged security personnel in the area to avoid “collective punishment” in their drive to restore peace. The group emphasised the need for “justice without vengeance”, urging that grief must not be allowed to spark further conflict.
Additionally, DAYA issued a strong call for responsible communication, urging the public especially youth, social media users, and bloggers to refrain from spreading rumors, inflammatory rhetoric, ethnic blame, or unverified reports that could inflame tensions.
DAYA prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed souls and expressed hope for a swift return to calm and lasting peace in Gindabour and the wider STK District.
