As the 2026 Islamic Learning and Memorisation (ILM) Challenge draws closer to its climax, the Hudu Foundation has come in to spice the occasion by donating trophies and books to the Islamic Education Unit, organisers of the event.
The donation is aimed at supporting learning and encouraging students in Islamic schools to excel academically.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Chairman of the Islamic Education Council, Duogo Yakubu, expressed satisfaction and appreciation to Alhaj Hudu Mogtari and the Hudu Foundation for the gesture. He said such donations would contribute significantly to improving the learning environment and motivate students to take their studies seriously.
Mr. Duogo, commended Alhaj Hudu Mogtari and the Hudu Foundation, and urged other stakeholders to continue supporting the ILM Quiz Challenge and other educational initiatives of the Islamic Education unit
Receiving the items on behalf of the Islamic Education Unit and its Council, the Deputy Manager and Head of Human Resource, Seidu Kassim, said the books and trophies would help the Unit reward students for their outstanding performance in the quiz.
He explained that the prizes would serve as motivation for learners to put in greater effort in subsequent editions of the annual challenge, which brings together Islamic schools in the municipality.
According to him, Islamic schools previously recorded poor performances in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), but the introduction of the ILM Challenge has contributed to a dramatic improvement in academic performance. In recent years, about ten Islamic schools have recorded a 100 percent pass rate in the BECE, he revealed.
The competing schools in this years grand finale are ASWAJ Islamic School, Fongo E/A JHS, Falaiya Model JHS, and Kabanye Model JHS.
Explaining the format of the competition, Mr. Seidu said the participating Islamic schools are initially grouped into groups of four for the first round, after which the competition progresses through the Round of 16 and Round of 8 before the grand final.
He urged parents and the general public to turn out in their numbers for the final, describing it as an exciting event.
The final is scheduled to take place at the Wa Technical Institute on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
On his part, Shiekh Ahmed Yakub, a renowned Islamic scholar in Wa, expressed joy and satisfaction over the donation, highlighting its importance to the participating schools and students.
He called for continued support for the ILM Challenge and other educational initiatives while also advocating for greater attention to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses in schools.
The organisers believe the annual ILM Challenge is playing an important role in promoting academic excellence and improving educational outcomes among students in Islamic schools.
