President John Dramani Mahama has pledged government’s attention to the Ga-Wechiau-Dorimon-Wa road, describing the route as an important link that requires development.
Speaking at Poyentanga during his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour of the Upper West Region, President Mahama said the stretch, which connects the Wa West to the main N12 highway, will not be difficult to work on.
The President indicated that the Minister for Roads and Highways had visited the area and assessed the condition of the road, adding that there are plans to scope the road for inclusion in phase two of the Big Push programme.
President Mahama believes that developing the road would improve transportation, enhance connectivity and support economic activities in the district.
Meanwhile, residents of Wa West have expressed excitement over the progress of major development projects currently underway in the district.
The residents are particularly happy with the construction of the 24-Hour Economy Market at Poyentanga, the Ga TVET School, and the resumption of work on the Dorimon E-Block.
They applauded the progress of works thus far, indicating that the projects are bringing renewed hope and opportunities to their communities.
While commending government for the projects, the residents are also appealing for urgent attention to the poor road network in the district, which, they say, continues to affect movement, transportation and economic activities.
The Wa West District is one of the few districts in the country where no two communities are connected by a bitumen surfaced road. The upgrading of the Ga-Wechau-Dorimo-Wa road with bitumen will therefore be a great relief for the people and commercial activities.
Wa – Sawla Road Delays
On the construction of the Wa-Sawla-Wenchi road, President Mahama revealed that the contractor working on the Wa-Sawla lot, Messrs Marapoma, has been asked to deploy another team of workers to begin from Wa towards Sawla.
He said the decision forms part of efforts to accelerate the construction of the road as users in the affected regions continue to express disgust at the progress of work on the stretch.
The Wa-Sawla road has remained a major concern for residents of the region, who have repeatedly raised concerns over the slow pace of work and its impact on transportation and economic activities.
But speaking at the Wa Naa’s palace, Mr. Mahama said the deployment of a team to work from Wa to meet the team working from Sawla is expected to accelerate work on the road and improve connectivity between the Upper West and Savannah regions.
Ministerial Reshuffle
Following concerns raised by the Wa Naa over the reshuffling of Wa Central MP, Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo (PhD) from the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employement to the Presidency as a Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives, President Mahama said the reassignment of Dr. Pelpuo should not be a cause for concern.
He explained that ministerial reshuffle is part of the process of managing government where changes are made when necessary.
He, therefore, urged the public not to view the reshuffling as a problem, but rather as part of the normal process of running government.
Likening the exercise to a football match, where a coach substitutes players during the game based on situational demands, the President said the changes to his team are necessitated by a need to ensure effective management of the government.
He indicated that the reassignment of Dr. Pelpuo to the current role is because of the competencies he possesses, which are necessary to ensure effective execution of the key special programmes of the government.
He reassured the Wa Naa and residents of the Upper West Region of his commitment to giving the region recognition in his government.
