The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) has begun a 13-day investment roadshow across Northern Ghana, with the Upper West Region emerging as the leading region in identified investment opportunities, recording 45 project profiles.
The roadshow, which runs from October 11 to 23, 2026, seeks to connect investors with investment-ready projects across the five regions of the north and mobilise capital to accelerate regional economic growth.
The Upper West Region leads the Northern Region, which recorded 38 project profiles, followed by the Savannah Region with 19, Upper East with 16 and North East with 10.
The exercise is being undertaken ahead of the Invest Ghana Summit scheduled for November 16 and 17, 2026, where investment opportunities from across the country will be showcased to domestic and international investors.
As part of the engagement in the Upper West Region, a GIPA delegation led by Deputy Chief Executive Officer Abdul Razak Baba is expected to visit Baba Tree Company Limited in Wa to assess its operations and explore opportunities for expansion and collaboration.
The delegation will also engage regional ministers, business leaders and traditional authorities across the targeted areas.
The 45 project profiles identified in the Upper West Region form part of 128 opportunities documented across the five regions in northern Ghana under GIPA’s Investment Opportunities Mapping Project (IOMP), launched in July 2025. The nationwide exercise has received more than 600 project profiles.
The identified opportunities cover agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, tourism, mining, renewable energy, logistics and trade.
Despite leading Northern Ghana in identified investment opportunities, the Upper West Region has recorded six registered investment projects between 1994 and June 2026, according to GIPA data.
The five northern regions have attracted a combined 100 registered investment projects with an estimated foreign direct investment value of US$1.91 billion over the period. The Northern Region accounts for 68 projects, followed by Upper East with 14, North East with seven, Upper West with six and Savannah with five.
GIPA Chief Executive Officer Simon Madjie said Northern Ghana had significant potential to drive industrialisation and improve livelihoods through investment in agriculture, agro-processing, livestock, renewable energy, tourism, manufacturing, mining, logistics and cross-border trade.
“Northern Ghana is no longer a frontier of potential. It is a destination of opportunity,” he said, emphasising the Authority’s commitment to connecting identified opportunities with investors and building strategic partnerships.
The roadshow is being organised in partnership with MTN Ghana, with support from the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the Ghana Free Zones Authority, the Ghana Enterprises Agency, the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat and the Regional Coordinating Councils of the five regions.
The initiative is expected to help translate identified investment opportunities into businesses, partnerships and jobs, with the Upper West Region seeking to convert its leading number of project profiles into increased investment and economic activity.
