The Wa Central Prison Commander, DDP Alhaji Ousmane Tasembedo, Esq has appealed to the general public to support the development of talents among inmates at the Wa Central Prison.
The call comes after a recent talent show organised by the Regional Command of the Ghana Prisons Service, which aimed at providing a platform for inmates to showcase their talents.
Speaking at the 2026 Inmates Talent Show at the premises of Wa Central Prisons, the Commander said he was excited with the immense talent shown by the inmates and the mesmerising performances.
He expressed surprise at the level of talent displayed by the inmates, stating that he was unaware that such talents existed among them.
According to him, the programme was driven by the inmates and some prison officers who collaborated to identify the various talents displayed on the day.
Alhaji Ousmane said some inmates, after serving their sentences, could be supported to develop their talents in areas such as dancing, music and composition, which could help them reintegrate into society and reduce the risk of returning to crime.
He explained that with the right support and opportunities, some of the inmates could develop into successful musicians and other professionals.
The Commander said he was particularly encouraged by the positive response the programme received on Facebook and other social media platforms, including the number of likes and favourable comments.
He urged benevolent individuals who watched the programme via social media platforms or other means and wish to support or develop the talent of a particular inmate to apply through the appropriate prison authorities.
Following the success of the 2026 Inmates Talent Show at the Wa Central Prison, DDP Ousmane Tasembedo expressed belief that there could be more talents hidden in prison yards.
He, therefore, called on prison authorities to give similar opportunity to prison officers to also showcase they have.
He also appealed to the general public and other stakeholders to support subsequent editions of the initiative, either in kind or cash so that talented inmates can be rewarded and encouraged to do more.
The Inmates Talent Show is an initiative introduced by the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie. It is intended to serve as a means through which inmates with talents can be identified and harnessed.
The Service believes that with the right support, the initiative could go a long way to helping the reformation and reintegration of talented inmates in the society after they have served their terms
