Wa West: Outgoing GES Budget Officer Honoured for Dedicated Service

Concerned Headteachers within the Wa West Education Directorate have honoured the outgoing District Budget Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for his outstanding contribution to educational development in the district.

Mr. Suwedu Bawa, who until recently served as the Budget Officer and doubled as the NGO Desk Officer and Treasurer of the Directorate’s Welfare Steering Committee, has been appointed the substantive Regional Budget Officer for the Upper West Region.

Mr. Bawa joined the Wa West Education Directorate in September 2014 and was first posted to Gurungu Junior High School. He later became the substantive Headteacher of Wechiua D/A Primary School before receiving a call-up to the district office in April 2017 to serve as the District Budget Officer. During his tenure, he also took on additional responsibilities as the District Public Relations Officer for the Directorate.

A brief ceremony held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the forecourt of the Wa West Education Directorate brought together various education stakeholders to celebrate his service.

Speaking on behalf of the Concerned Headteachers, Mr. Braimah Grifenus, Headteacher of Diesi Junior High School, said the event was organised to recognise Mr. Bawa’s hard work, dedication and selfless service. He presented a citation, a smock, and a cash amount of two thousand cedis (GH¢2,000) to the outgoing officer on behalf of the group.

The District Director of Education, Mr. Amatus D. Tug-uu, expressed appreciation to the group for the gesture and encouraged supervisors to keep records of their subordinates to facilitate recognitions of this nature. He described the occasion as a memorable moment in the Directorate and urged Mr. Bawa to maintain his spirit of hard work in his new regional role.

In an emotional response, Mr. Bawa expressed profound gratitude to the Concerned Headteachers for the honour done him. He described the headteachers in the district as highly cooperative, adding that positive working relationships often depend on approach and mutual respect. He encouraged teachers to serve diligently and trust in the right time for their efforts to be rewarded.

He also thanked the District Director and staff of the Wa West Education Directorate for the support and cordial working relationship he enjoyed throughout his service.
