The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wa West, Hon. Richard Wulo, has expressed concern over the increasing number of buildings being constructed without approved building plans in the district, warning that the situation poses a serious threat to lives and property.
Speaking to the media on the sideline of the national cleanup day at Nyoli, the DCE mentioned that some developers have put up structures on waterways and other unauthorized locations, increasing the risk of severe flooding during the rainy season.
He stressed that such developments not only endanger residents but also undermine proper physical planning and sustainable community development.
Mr. Wulo disclosed that the Wa West District Assembly, in collaboration with traditional authorities and landowners, has introduced measures to address the growing challenge. As part of the new arrangement, all prospective developers will be required to obtain building permits from the District Assembly before commencing any construction project.
He explained that the initiative is intended to ensure orderly physical development across the district while safeguarding communities against preventable disasters such as flooding.
The DCE urged residents, landowners, and developers to comply with the new requirements and work closely with the Assembly to promote responsible land use and protect lives and property.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to enforcing planning regulations and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure sustainable development throughout the Wa West District.
