The Upper West Regional Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its fight against armed robbery, following the arrest of six suspects believed to be members of an armed robbery syndicate operating in parts of the Wa West District and Wa Municipality.
According to the Police, the arrests followed months of intelligence-led and coordinated operations targeting a syndicate allegedly responsible for a series of robbery incidents in the region.
The Police said the gang had been targeting victims, attacking and injuring them before forcing them to disclose their Mobile Money (MoMo) Personal Identification Numbers (PINs). The suspects allegedly used the PINs to transfer money from victims’ accounts into MoMo accounts controlled by the robbers.
The six suspects identified by the Police are Amadu Moro, 35; Adama Yussif, 40; Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 52; Idrissu Adama, 35; Korika Issaka, 20; and Zakaria Brigi, 21.
Nasiru Abdul Rahman, however, sustained injuries during the police operation and died upon arrival at the Upper West Regional Hospital. His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Preliminary investigations have linked Adama Yussif, Amadu Moro and the deceased Nasiru Abdul Rahman to several robbery incidents recorded between March and August 2026.
The incidents include an alleged robbery at Pisen-Dapoha on March 27, 2026, Kpenetang Community on May 23, Kulkpara-Dapoha on June 19, and Kpenetang Junction on August 1, 2026.
The Police say investigations so far have established that approximately GH¢22,070 in cash was stolen from victims, while an additional GH¢3,274 was allegedly siphoned through the MoMo accounts of victims.
Seven mobile phones have also been retrieved from the suspects and are being subjected to further examination as investigations continue.
While six suspects have been accounted for, the Police say two other individuals allegedly connected to the robbery syndicate remain at large.
They have been identified as Haruna, 30, described as the armourer of the gang, and Amadu Mahamudu, 24, the son of the deceased suspect.
The Police Command says efforts have been intensified to locate and arrest the two wanted suspects.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has appealed to residents, particularly those in communities affected by recent robbery incidents, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities.
The Command is also urging the public to cooperate with investigators by providing credible information that could assist in locating the two wanted suspects and preventing further criminal activities.
The Police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and improve security across the Upper West Region.
