Zoomlion has embarked on a disinfestation and disinfection exercise across all eleven municipalities and districts in the Upper West Region.
This fumigation is being carried out to deactivate fungal infections resulting from stagnant waters.
As part of the sanitation giant’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), the exercise is aimed at ensuring all assemblies in the Upper West Region are disinfected.
The fumigation exercise forms part of the nationwide preparedness against the outbreak of disease.
The exercise focused on identifying waste-dumping sites and final disposal facilities within the affected enclaves, which have become critical breeding grounds for disease vectors.
The regional manager of Zoomlion said the fumigation and disinfection exercise is crucial to the sustainability of good public health management. Zoomlion considered it an emergency response to prevent any outbreak of communicable diseases in the region, he added.
He indicated that the impact of the Accra flood is not felt but the need for Zoomlion to be adequately prepared to avert any outbreaks.
He however, urged assemblies to scale up this important national exercise.
The municipal environmental and sanitation officer Razack Kanyita said the exercise targeted selected schools, market areas and other areas that pose a danger to the community and called for collaboration to keep the environment clean.
The campaign was carried out in all districts and supervised by Zoomlion and assembly workers in the Upper West.
