World Vision Ghana, in partnership with Unilever Ghana Limited, has organised an oral health sensitisation programme at Bulingin in the Wa West District to climax its Oral Hygiene Week celebration.

The initiative, which benefited over a thousand pupils across the district, was designed to deliver practical oral health education, promote improved hygiene outcomes, and instil lifelong dental care habits among school children.

Speaking at the event, Cluster Manager for World Vision Ghana, Mr. Sergious Before, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to reducing health challenges among children in vulnerable communities. He urged pupils to prioritise oral hygiene, expressing “hope that children will develop the habit of brushing at critical times to ensure that they have healthy lives”.

Eugene, a representative from the Ghana Health Service led an interactive session on proper oral care practices. The session included a demonstration of correct brushing techniques and emphasised the importance of maintaining consistent oral hygiene routines.

In support of the initiative, Unilever Ghana Limited, through World Vision Ghana, donated ten (10) boxes of Pepsodent toothpaste, one hundred (100) toothbrushes, fifty (50) exercise books, and ten (10) T-shirts. In addition, Mr. Before presented 120 pairs of sandals and over 400 shirts to the pupils, sourced from its partner organisation, Gift-in-Kind (GIK). These contributions ensured that each participating child returned home with something, especially essential items to maintain proper oral care.

The cluster manager noted that the programme forms part of a broader intervention, which has already rolled out health screenings for ear and eye conditions, as well as hepatitis B among school pupils across the district.

Representing the Wa West Education Directorate, the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for the Tanina Circuit, Mr. Gornah Declan, expressed appreciation to World Vision Ghana and its partners for their continued support. He observed that the intervention would significantly enhance personal hygiene among the pupils.

He used the opportunity and appealed for additional assistance, particularly in the provision of school furniture to improve learning conditions.

The event was graced by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ghana Education Service, the Ghana Health Service, staff of World Vision Ghana, and pupils of Bulingin D/A Primary and Junior High School.
