The 2025 Best Youth Farmer for the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) District, Yendor-Naa Kafule John, has appealed to the government to subsidise agricultural inputs to encourage more young people to venture into farming.

The 36-year-old, who works as a professional nurse in Nandom and hails from Owlo in the DBI, was honoured at this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration. He received a brand-new tricycle and other farm implements for his outstanding contribution to agriculture within the district.

Popularly known as Mboma, Mr. Yendor-Naa said his decision to go into farming was driven by a passion to support the less privileged while boosting his personal income. In just two years of farming, he has been donating foodstuffs to widows and other vulnerable groups in the community.

He encouraged the youth to embrace agriculture as a viable business, noting that increased participation in the sector could significantly reduce unemployment in the country.

Despite his successes, Mr. Yendor-Naa highlighted major challenges facing farmers in the DBI District, including the high cost of farm inputs, inadequate labour and poor road infrastructure. He therefore urged the government to prioritise the subsidisation of fertiliser and other essential inputs to ease the burden on farmers.

He expressed confidence that the proposed Farmer Service Centres, if established as promised by the government, would greatly enhance productivity within the district. According to him, access to modern farm machinery such as planters and combine harvesters would help address many of the operational difficulties young farmers face.
