SSNIT Marks 60 Years with Renewed Focus on Innovation and Public Engagement

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has held a media engagement session in Tamale for journalists from the five regions in northern Ghana as part of activities marking its 60th-anniversary celebration.

The event, held on 30th October 2025, aimed at strengthening SSNIT’s relationship with the media and promoting accurate and consistent reporting on social security issues.

Addressing the media, SSNIT highlighted some key milestones, including the enrolment of over 120,000 self-employed persons onto the scheme in 2023, and the payment of monthly pensions to more than 257,000 retirees nationwide.

The General Manager in charge of Benefits, Philip Kofi Senyah, revealed that the oldest pensioner currently receiving benefits is 115 years old, while the youngest is 32, the latter due to permanent disability.

He further disclosed that SSNIT’s investment portfolio across both public and private institutions now stands at GHS 24.5 billion. This includes GHS 11.7 billion in equities and GHS 5.4 billion in real estate, reinforcing the Trust’s commitment to strengthening its financial base to ensure long-term sustainability.

In terms of digital infrastructure, Mr. Senyah added that plans are underway to introduce a 24/7 virtual SSNIT branch to improve accessibility and enhance customer service delivery across the country.

He appealed to the media to continue supporting SSNIT by promoting accurate information and helping to project the organisation’s work and achievements.

This year’s 60th-anniversary celebration is themed: “Social Security at 60: Reflecting, Engaging, and Innovating.”
