BECE Supervisors and invigilators hailed for outstanding performance in Wa West

The Wa West District Directorate of Education has expressed appreciation to supervisors and invigilators for the yeoman performance during the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) held across the four centres in the district.

At a dinner held following the completion of the BECE, the directorate hailed and celebrated the supervisors and invigilators for the “good job” done.

The occasion held earlier this month at the First and Last Gardens in Wa was attended by the Member of Parliament for the Wa West Constituency, the District Chief Executive, and other dignitaries.

Welcoming the participants, the District Director of Education, Amatus D. Tug-uu, lauded the work of both supervisors and invigilators, reminding them of the risks associated with the job.

“Being an invigilator and supervisor can be risky. You can die in the process, be interdicted, be demoted, or sacked in line of carrying out your duties,” he stated. He noted that for the supervisors and invigilators to go through the BECE period without any of these associated risks recorded within the Wa West District is worth commending. “You dont wait to only talk about bad things of people but also the good,” he said.

Making reference to the conviction and sentencing of eight teachers for examination malpractices during the 2025 BECE, the Director cautioned teachers, invigilators, supervisors, school authorities, as well as candidates to always adhere to examination rules even in their schools internal exams.

As he praised the supervisors and invigilators for their professionalism during the process, he also urged them to continue to show such exemplary conduct to pupils in their everyday interactions. He advised them on the need to respect time, emphasising that time is precious and must not be joked with.

Mr. Tug-uu was optimistic that the occasion, which was the maiden edition in the history of the Wa West Education Directorate, would be sustained to serve as motivation to both supervisors and invigilators.

The District Chief Executive, Richard Wullo, while hailing the participants, reiterated the mandate of the District Assembly to providing educational infrastructure. In line with this, he disclosed some projects that have been worked on during the year 2025. These include a newly constructed 3-unit classroom block in Dabo, a school block at Metii in Gurungu, a 6-unit classroom block in Varimpere, and a kindagarten block at roofing level in Tanina.

He added that his outfit with assistance from the Member of Parliament is lobbying with Getfund to renovate and build new schools, all aimed at improving educational sector in the district.

On his part, the Member of Parliament, Peter Lanchene Toobu, while commending the supervisors and invigilators at the occasion, described the teacher as “a candle who burns yourself out to give light to others.” According to him, “The influence of a good teacher can never be erased”.

He therefore urged teachers to be committed to the progress of the Wa West District as their toil will never be forgotten. He disclosed that four teachers, through his efforts, have been taken out of the classroom to occupy some politically appionted positions.

The honourable MP reiterated that the government of John Dramani Mahama is committed to improving education across the country. He therefore noted that abandoned educational projects, particularly at Dodoma and Varimpere, will be completed while new ones will be initiated in deserving areas within the district.

Mr. Toobu supported the call of the District Director of Education to making the event a yearly celebration. While absorbing the cost of the food and drinks at the sitting, he left great smiles on the faces of the participants when he announced a take home package of three hundred Ghana cedis (Ghc300.00) for each participant as transportation cost to the venue.

Speaking on behalf of the supervisors and invigilators, Mr. Ezekiel thanked the District Education Directorate, the MP, and the DCE for the recognition of their work. He said they will continue to show commitment to hard work, promising to give their all to ensure outstanding performances in the district.
