World Vision Ghana has initiated a strategic partnership with the Wa West District Education Directorate to strengthen Early Childhood Education and improve foundational learning outcomes in the district.

The engagement, held at the Wa West District Assembly Conference Hall on Monday, February 23, 2026, brought together officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and representatives of World Vision Ghana to explore collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing literacy and numeracy development among young learners.

Leading the World Vision delegation, Cluster Programmes Manager Mr. Sergious Before introduced the organisation’s flagship education intervention, “Learning Essential Competencies and Skills for a Resilient Next Gen” (LEARN). The five-year programme, which began in October 2025, is designed to improve foundational skills in reading and numeracy, particularly at the early childhood and early grade levels.

Mr. Before explained that the LEARN initiative seeks to strengthen teacher capacity and school leadership, improve classroom and school environments, promote inclusive education with attention to gender and disability, and deepen parental and community involvement in children’s learning. According to him, early investment in quality education is critical to reversing declining academic performance and building resilient future generations.

He further noted that World Vision Ghana has successfully implemented the education intervention in twelve districts nationwide and is now expanding it to Wa West and Wa East districts. The programme is expected to address challenges such as under-resourced classrooms, weak household support for learning, child protection concerns, and limited opportunities for skills development.

The District Director of Education, Mr. Amatus D. Tug-uu, welcomed the partnership and commended World Vision Ghana for its sustained commitment to improving education delivery across the country. He assured the Directorate’s full support for the successful implementation of the Early Childhood Education initiative, pledging to ensure teacher participation, effective supervision, and alignment of the project with the district’s education plans.

He emphasized that collaboration between development partners and the Education Directorate is key to delivering sustainable solutions to improve learning standards, particularly at the foundational level where it matters most. “The Wa West Education Directorate is ready to collaborate with World Vision to deliver long-lasting, sustainable solutions for the falling standards of education in the District,” he stated.

World Vision, an international Christian relief and development organisation operating in Ghana since 1979, has maintained a presence in Wa West District for the past six years, working closely with communities including Vieri and Dorimon. The organization has promoted partnership with rural communities, local churches and other development agencies to promote sustainable and transformational community development in Ghana.
