Wa West Youth Urged to Unite for Development

By: Moses Dari Dorlintey

The Convenor of the Concerned Youth of the Eastern Corridor of Wa West District, Hafiz Timbile, has called on residents, especially the youth, to commit themselves to unity as a key step toward improving development in the district.

According to him, disunity among young people is making it difficult to set a common development agenda for the various communities.

Speaking on MAK News after a press conference held on Sunday on issues surrounding developments in the district, especially in the Eastern Corridor of the district, Mr. Timbile said the district lacks a strong and well organised youth leadership structure capable of representing the interests of young people at traditional councils and important decision making platforms.

He stressed the need for the formation of a district-wide youth association that will bring together all youth groups across Wa West to deliberate on development issues instead of engaging in constant disagreements.

Mr. Timbile noted that such an association would help channel youth concerns through the right structures and contribute meaningfully to local governance and development.

Hafiz Timbile had earlier called on the traditional, religious and political leaders in the area to work together for the good of the Wa West District. During the press conference, he said leaders must be committed to peace, and urged them to amicably resolve any differences that may exist between them.

Responding to concerns about the possibility of government halting or suspending projects already earmarked for some communities due to ongoing controversies, Mr. Timbile maintained that unity must remain the priority.

He said the call for unity would continue even if government decides to suspend the projects, adding that unity among the people can help lobby for their restoration.

Mr. Timbile expressed confidence that the projects, once initiated, would not be permanently taken away, insisting that unity can help bring them back if they were to be halted or suspended.

He reiterated that development will thrive in Wa West only when the people stand together and work with one voice, stating that development in any part of the district is a development for all.
