Principal of the Wa Technical Institute, Mr. Saaka Adams has bemoaned the lack of accommodation for staff to stay on school premises.
According to him, the school is adequately staffed with about 200 teachers. However, only six (6) of the teachers are living on the campus.
Meanwhile, the Wa Technical Institute, one of four category A SHS/TVET schools in the Upper West region, boasts a student population of over three thousand (3,000) with ninety percent living on campus, he disclosed.
The limited staff numbers on the school campus against the student population, he believes, does not contribute positively to student discipline nor offers enough protection to the students.
Adams Saaka made this assertion following an attack by unknown individuals on the school last Wednesday, November 19, 2025. The incident which occurred at night led to student injuries and destruction of school property, with some students fleeing the school that night.
Preliminary reports suggest that the attack was a result of the seizure by the school cadet an iPhone 13 that was smuggled into the school by a student, only identified as Aziz. A committee has since been set up to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.
Mr. Saaka believes the attack could have been prevented if many teachers were living on the school premises.
He therefore appeals to the government to build staff bungalows to increase the number of teachers on campus.
