UBIDS Registrar Notifies University Community of Name Change

The Government of Ghana has officially changed the name of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) to the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), an official notice from the university Registrar says.

In a circular dated January 5, 2026, the Registrar, Mr. Job Asante informed staff, students and the general public of the change and instructed all duty-bearers to ensure that “all correspondences and documentations reflect this new name moving forward.”

The notice, issued on behalf of university management, was distributed to senior academic and administrative officers including deans, directors, heads of departments and units, the SRC president and GRASAG president. The Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Finance have also been copied in the circular.

The brief notice which follows recent parliamentary approval of the renaming, did not indicate an effective date beyond the instruction that records and correspondence be updated “moving forward.” University stakeholders are expected to adopt the UBIDS name on official stationery, websites, certificates and other institutional documents in the coming days.

The name change has been met with mixed reactions with some people applauding the move while others say it is a needless agenda only informed by political considerations.
