The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of St. Cecilia Primary School has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating state of the school’s classroom block, calling for immediate support to improve the learning environment. The Association describes the dilapidated narure of the three decades old structure as worrying, hence the need for immediate facelift.
Speaking to Radio Mak, the PTA Chairman of St. Cecilia Primary A, Mr. Dauda Karim, said the poor state of the building is negatively affecting teaching and learning as pupils do not feel comfortable studying in such classrooms.

According to him, the situation is discouraging students and teachers alike, thus, requires an urgent need for either a new classroom block or the renovation of the existing one to make learning more conducive.
Mr. Karim commended the teachers for their dedication and commitment to their duties, but stressed that the poor condition of the school infrastructure remains a major challenge for the PTA.
On his part, the PTA Chairman for Primary B, Mr. Umari Karim, also bemoaned the deteriorated state of the school, noting that since its establishment in 1984, the structure has never undergone any major renovation.
He, therefore, called on the Municipal Chief Executive and the Assembly, as well as benevolent organisations and individuals, to come to the aid of the school.

Some parents revealed that the school, particularly the Primary A block, has no toilet facility and no access to potable water. This situation, they said, makes it difficult for pupils to concentrate during lessons, especially when they are thirsty or need to ease themselves.
While parents have been contributing funds over the years to help maintain the school, their efforts are limited due to financial constraints.
Government authorities, non-governmental organisations, and well-meaning individuals are therefore urged to intervene urgently to prevent further deterioration and ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for the pupils.
