As a health practitioner, stationed at Wa Municipal Hospital. I have observed with concern a pressing issue affecting complete health care within our health facilities in the region.
When patients are admitted, it is common for family members to leave their aged relatives to assume caregiving responsibilities while they return home.
This phenomenon has become a significant challenge, placing undue pressure on healthcare providers and compromising the quality of care provided.
These our aged individuals, often require healthcare themselves and are at risk of developing additional health issues while caring for their patients at the various healthcare facilities.
My heart is always heavy, seeing our grandparents caring for the sick. Essential healthcare errands such as sending blood sample to the laboratory and collecting drugs at the pharmacy turns to be a burden on nurses since their bones are too weak to carry them.
It’s striking to note that some of these young and energetic family members intentionally leave their elderly relatives to shoulder the caregiving responsibilities, only to return home and spend time with their spouses.
I humbly urge families to prioritize the health and care of their loved ones, shouldering it on the young and energetic family members.
Do remember, Your health is your concern. Thank you all!!
