The Upper West Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into a violent shooting incident that occurred on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at about 8:30 p.m. in Lassia Toulu, a community in the Wa West District.
According to preliminary police information, unidentified armed men riding two motorbikes attacked a local drinking spot, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to several others.
The statement issued by the Regional Police Commander, ACP Francis Yiribaare reported that the assailants had earlier robbed a barbershop, a provision store, and a nearby restaurant before the shooting incident.
It said police patrol teams responded swiftly, taking the injured to health centres in Lassia and St. Ignatius for first aid before they were later referred to the Upper West Regional Hospital for further treatment. Investigators recovered eight spent BB cartridges at the crime scene as evidence.
ACP Mr. Yiribaare also disclosed that a joint security team comprising officers from the police, military, Immigration Service, the National Intelligence Bureau, and the District Assembly has visited the affected community to assess the situation and engage local leaders. Security authorities, alongside the District Chief Executive, also visited victims at the Regional Hospital on October 20, where medical officers confirmed that all injured persons are responding positively to treatment.
Meanwhile, joint security patrols have been intensified in Lassia Toulu and surrounding communities to enhance safety and support efforts to track down the perpetrators.
The Regional Police Command assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to maintain peace and security and urged residents to remain calm and offer credible information that may assist ongoing investigations.
